Hot Oil Treatment : What it is and how to do it

If your hair is dry, brittle, frizzy, color-treated, or prone to split ends, a hot oil treatment may be beneficial. By sealing the hair cuticle, the oil may help protect your hair from damage. The oil can also moisturize your hair. Hot oil treatments tend to work best for natural hair.

What is a hot oil treatment?

-A hot oil treatment consists of coating the hair with a plant based oil that has been warmed up, with the purpose of adding extra nutrients to the strands, sealing the cuticles, protecting the strands, and strengthening the hair.

How long will your hot oil treatment Take ?

-You can choose from a 20-to-30-minute session or an overnight treatment. There's some debate about whether it's best to shampoo your hair before or after the treatment. However, with dry hair, it's generally advised that you shampoo afterwards.

Tip: be sure to rinse it out with cool water. This might be a shock to your system but this is an essential step in order to seal cuticles and lock in all the hot oily goodness.

Does hot oil help hair grow?

-Hot oil treatments are great for stimulating blood flow which has been shown to encourage hair growth.

TIP: You can leave the oil in your hair for 30 minutes, or for even greater results, you can even let the treatment do its thing overnight. When it comes time to rinse your hair, shampoo twice to get it all out and condition your hair as usual.

OILS TO USE :

The best hot oil treatments for hair are made of plant-based oils, like jojoba oil, argan oil, moringa oil, avocado oil, sesame oil, olive oil, or coconut oil. Select an oil based on what your hair needs. Coconut oil helps to nourish your hair and promote healthy growth, so it's great for any hair type.
